Meet The Group

Currently the Worcester Cancer Support Group has over 30 members, with a wide range of ages and different types of Cancer. We also welcome the carers and family members to our monthly meetings, so that they can also be provided with support.

Here are some testimonies from our group members.

Sylvia Render, Carer, Founder.

In 1973 when my husband was diagnosed with cancer, there was no one to go to for advice or support leaving us very afraid and uncertain of the future. Then In 1982 when a lady was diagnosed with cancer she contacted Jack knowing he had cancer she felt comfortable expressing her feelings about the illness and the emotional trauma it was having on her life, it was also good support for Jack. The outcome of this support resulted in Worcester Cancer Support Group being formed. When Jack died in 1991 there were a further 15 groups operating and supporting cancer patients in the Midlands for which he was awarded the M.B.E. It is wonderful that today there are many groups out there to help cancer patients and their families. Worcester Cancer Support group is there too to continue the work started all those years ago.

Peg Bennett, Carer.

I was introduced to Worcester Cancer Support Group 5 years ago by a former neighbour who suggested we join the group at one of there monthly meetings. As a carer I thoroughly enjoy the meetings and to be able to discuss problems with like minded people is very rewarding. We often have interesting speakers and demonstrations at our meetings as well as the usual tea and biscuits. I would recommend the group to anyone suffering cancer, why not come along where a warm welcome awaits you.

In March 2016 I was diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma. After the diagnosis I did not know what to do and I knew that I needed support. A few months later I attended a meeting of the Worcester Cancer Support Group. I was welcomed into the group and I have not looked back. I attend the meetings when I am able and it has been a great support to me. The group meet and talk about all sorts of things and it is a friendly atmosphere.

When my Husband was diagnosed with Cancer our whole world was turned upside down and life just stopped. The Worcester Cancer Support Group helped us to understand his Cancer, how to cope with the news and answered all of our questions. They were a life line when we did not know where else to go for answers. We continue to support them by coming to the group meetings and to see that you can live with and after Cancer.
